We usually use inverter in residential as well as in commercial building. We have to procure proper rating capacity of Inverter and battery for installation. To calculate proper size inverter, we follow following steps.
- Calculation of Rating of Inverter:
First, we estimate the total power of appliances connected in the building.
Suppose, there are following appliances with given ratings

The power factor of individual domestic appliances varies from 0.6 to 0.8.
Average power factor =0.7
Total VA required=680/0.7=971.428
Nearest standard rating of the inverter should be 1000VA
- Calculation of battery size:
Suppose we have to run the inverter at least for 4 hours during distribution power failure.
Battery Capacity=Total wattage/Battery Voltage X efficiency
=680×4/12Vx0.85=192.66 Ah
Nearest Standard Capacity of 12V Battery=200Ah
